The Gerrell & Hard Challenge

Gerrell & Hard has successfully evolved with its markets, developing its culture but remaining true to its values as the business grows. When the leadership team approached In The Box, they felt the company’s old website and digital presence no longer reflected the full capability of the business. They asked us to help them rebrand, and to consult on a fresh website more in keeping with company’s proposition now and for the future.

The team needed help to capture and share their insights in a clear, unified voice that accurately represents their brand. We knew we would need to collaborate with them to produce content that demonstrates their expertise, in a way that is not too intrusive or demanding of their time.

We felt that the Gerrell & Hard team had endless stories to tell. From providing expert market insight to inspiring candidate advice and lessons learned from their unique culture, this is a company with interesting things to say.

As for many of our clients, our role in working with Gerrell & Hard has been to create a digital presence that represents the quality of the business, and to continually create and share content that sustains and enhances their reputation.

Our Work


Our first piece of work was a rebrand. Founders Nick and Joel felt their old brand no longer represented their business. We held a discovery session with them and carried out some competitor research to help us – and them – understand what they wanted from a new brand.

Crucial to the team’s requirements were:

  • Modernity to better represent the high technology sectors they had expanded into, and so that the brand can exist comfortably in a digital, web-based environment.
  • An encapsulation of the quality, luxury aspect of their service, described as the ‘Mercedes’ feel.
  • An obvious connection to their old brand and not a radical departure from their respected name.

Along with a new brand identity, we provided G&H with a detailed brand manual and corporate stationery.

When Gerrell & Hard approached In The Box to assist with a new website, they had already selected a recruitment-specific CMS provider they wished to use. They would use the CMS’ proprietary technology for the website platform, but wanted guidance throughout the whole project to ensure their new website was of sufficient quality to represent their brand.

After agreeing a sitemap and some basic user journeys, we worked closely with Gerrell & Hard to produce website template designs for the key pages, focusing heavily on user experience. All the while, it was imperative that we encapsulated the qualities of the new brand and maintained the high-end feel they needed. The website needed to bring the brand to life.

The resulting mobile-friendly website features content hubs, which pull related content into one place. For example, Automotive jobs, case studies, testimonials and blogs all feed on to the Automotive landing page. This kind of structure is both good SEO practice as well as being beneficial for user experience.

Throughout the website build process we provided consultation – not just in design, but in third-party client-management, quality assurance, content management and testing.

Managed services

We provide a managed service for Gerrell & Hard, supporting them with their social media presence and regular blogging. We work to a regularly updated content schedule and write a monthly roundup of key industry news across their markets. Close collaboration and an acute understanding of the company brand, culture and ethos are essential to the work we do, as is the essential intelligence we gained during an extensive and in-depth discovery session where we established tone of voice, sources of content for curation, business focus, markets and marketing objectives.
